For this assignment I chose to walk with my friend Ethan back in my hometown (Virginia Beach) mainly because I wanted an environment where I could go out late at night and explore places I hadn’t been in that context. The two of us were driving by the beach and I randomly suggested we take the walk there, and that led to our choice of route.
The first rule we implemented was simply turning in the presence of another person. Since we were walking relatively late at night, there weren’t many people by the ocean itself. However, as we made our way to the boardwalk, that’s when we began circling. Later we added a rule that anytime we made a reference to a specific person (our friend Ryan), we’d have to cross the street to the otherside, no matter which way we were facing.
Ultimately this led to us basically walking in place by the end of the route, which was nice because it actually let both of us talk about our respective experiences in school/university without a time restraint. The final walk time ended up being a little over an hour, and I look forward to the next one we take during Christmas break.
